When I was a kid in the 60's and 70's, I remember being terrified hearing talks about this at assemblies and on Sundays. Nothing like terrifying all the sisters and scaring little children about the terror of rape along with making us feel guilty about unforgiveable sin and disfellowshipping.

The Great Screaming debate....
by Tuesday ini remember reading somewhere that if a woman didn't scream during a rape or try to stop it physically they would be disfellowshipped.
i have a couple quick questions about it, first off when was this policy stated and in what magazine.
second, did this change?

I feel creepy and uncomfortable when I hear religious songs and people who seem get controlled by them (like they show on TV). I have also seen some people almost go into a trace while singing them at some churches I've visited. I do like religious Christmas music and I like to see people happy when they sing hymns. So I think that for me, after being controlled for 38 years by the Watchtower, I don't like to have my beliefs or emotions controlled and I will mentally run away in the other direction.

The Pyramid Memorial on Russell's Grave. Don't forget about the part where he died on Halloween and was buried in a toga (according to his wishes). Here's the site with pics:

I think they made it Nisan 14 because it helps the song lyrics rhyme, "Twas Nisan 14 when his glory was seen"

JW nostalgia?
by R.Crusoe inlots of 'worldly humans look back with affection and positive emotion at their past life and loves and adventures!
this is especially true for periods in life humans have often devoted themselves to!.
it is lovely to see and hear ones with natural experiences and happiness to relate!.

The only good memories of being a Witness were when I was not being a "good witness":
1. Started drinking beer at age 13 with other kids in the congregation. (Hey, the elders were getting drunk, so why shouldn't we?)
2. Dated lots of "brothers" and never got married (it was too much fun to keep dating).
3. Moved out of my parents home when I was 19. The brothers told me I would fall into immorality. I didn't and never missed a meeting or field service just to spite them.
4. Went to college when I was 26 and knew it was driving the elders crazy! They couldn't do anything about it, no matter how much they would "counsel" me.
5. By the time I turned 32, I formally quit the ministry school.
6. A few years later, I stopped going from door to door. I truly enjoyed being "inactive".
7. I spent many years fading and finally quit when I was 45.
It wasn't always easy to go through. I've been through the anger, tears, guilt, feeling rejected by God, etc. I stayed with the organization longer than I wanted to. But I'll never forget the day I actually jumped up and down with happiness that I quit.

Do You Ever Fear The Jehovah's Witnesses???
by minimus inare you completely devoid of fear regarding jws in your life at this point?
-

I never did fear them, even when I was one of them. Some of them are very nice and sincere, but the ones who are judgemental and haughty I have no time for. I haven't talked to any witnesses since I left. If I ever do, any time they would try to talk to me about the witnesses, I would keep telling them they are crazy not to get on the internet and find out the things I did.

What is the WTs latest stand on education/college?
by cyber-sista inmy jw niece quit college a short time ago and didn't finish her degree, which she seems very excited about and took on a menial job, which she doesn't too happy about, according to my father.
my father (not a jw) is wondering what happened and if it is possibly something "the church" is now promoting.
when my daughter went to a 2 year college i had some negative comments from those in the congo.

Basically, they have never changed their minds regarding the "pitfalls" of getting a higher education. From what I remember, during the 60's - 80's, any type of education after high school was condemned and you could count on getting a hassle from the elders. I went to college anyway, because they couldn't disfellowship me for it and I could not bear the thought of working at Burger King or similar jobs the rest of my life. Then I noticed in my congregation, after high school, it became "acceptable" to get at least some type of job training or even get an associates degree that involved job training at a community college. I'm not sure if this is still the case in all congregations. But from what I've read here from the talks and assemblies, they still harp on how dangerous it is for "true Christians". Personally, I think they can afford to discourage college because they baptize new ones who have already been through college and the congregations take advantage of their skills.

I don't think she has yet given serious consideration to this point, and it seems her teachers are being less than honest about what will be required of her. Am I right that they save the most difficult life-style changing requirements until after the Baptism?
You are right. They are being "less than honest" about her requirements. They want people to get baptized because they feel they are saving lives. Only Jehovah's Witnesses will survive Armeggedon, and they have been taught they are living in the "Last Days" and sincerely feel they are on a life-saving mission. Because of this, they will "dance around" any objections their bible studies may have. They are obligated to start bible studies and get people baptized as quickly as possible before "The End" comes. If Witnesses don't do this, they will receive everlasting punishment from God (Jehovah). If you don't follow their beliefs, you are told you are serving Satan. You are either on God's side and become a baptized Witness, or you are on Satan's side. Being a Guide or a Girl Scout would definately be labeled as serving Satan.
If your friend won't stop stop her bible study, please warn her to delay her baptism as long as possible until she does more research on the internet. Of course, she can never tell her study conductor that she is looking outside of the literature that they publish (The Watchtower, the Jehovah's Witness version of the Bible, etc.) .
What you have heard is correct. Once she is baptized, the loving attention she is getting now will eventually turn into the responsibility she has to be loyal to the Jehovah's Witnesses organization. The pressure gets overwhelming to obey the beliefs. All of the Witnesses rules and beliefs are backed up with scriptures, but these are taken out of content from the Bible and explained to fit their beliefs. Using guilt, fear of everlasting death and rejection by God, she will have to follow their beliefs or she will be threatened with dishonoring God. She will be warned and may be brought before the elders to decide if they want to remove her from the organization. If she is removed ("disfellowshipped") she will be shunned by every member of Jehovah's Witnesses. Once you have wrapped your entire life around the Witnesses, this is very painful. You can read some of the other posts here on the board to see what others have experienced with their practice of shunning.
Hopefully you can get your friend to ask some questions on this board. We truly care about helping others avoid what we went through trying to quit or being thrown out and shunned. Also, Google Jehovah's Witnesses or Watchtower to get websites for the facts about this organization.
Welcome to the board! Take care

Memorial at the nicest country club in the area!
by Burger Time inmy brother informed me over the weekend that in gastonia nc the memorial for their congregation is going to be held at the nicest country club in gastonia.
in fact a lot of local celebrities live there including sherry from the nationally syndicated radio show bob & sherry.
a good bit of people are upset at this, as it's out of the way and a bit hard to find.
